Nebula Genomics was one of the first companies to sell affordable 30x whole genome sequencing directly to consumers. If you were a Nebula customer, you may have noticed that nebula.org now sends you to a different website: DNA Complete. Here is what changed, and what it means for the genome you already paid to sequence.
Nebula Genomics in Brief
- 2016: Nebula Genomics is co-founded by Harvard geneticist George Church, with a focus on whole genome sequencing and customer control over genetic data.
- 2021: ProPhase Labs acquires Nebula Genomics.
- Late 2024 – early 2025: ProPhase launches DNA Complete, and Nebula's original consumer service is replaced by it. Nebula's old dashboard, weekly research reports and download pages are retired, and nebula.org now redirects to dnacomplete.com.
DNA Complete describes itself as “by Nebula Genomics”, so the sequencing heritage is the same. The product, however, is a new membership with its own tiers and reports, rather than a continuation of every original Nebula account and feature.
What It Means for Former Nebula Customers
Your genome didn't change. A 30x whole genome sequence is a once-in-a-lifetime test: the raw data you received from Nebula is just as useful today as the day it was produced. What changed is where you can access it and which tools you can run on it.
- If you downloaded your files (CRAM, BAM, VCF or FASTQ) while your Nebula account was active, you are in good shape. Those files are fully usable with independent services.
- If you didn't download them, try signing in at dnacomplete.com, or contact DNA Complete support and ask for your raw CRAM or BAM file. Don't wait: there is no public guarantee of how long legacy Nebula data will stay available.
- You don't need a new kit to keep learning from your genome. Independent analysis services, including NutraHacker, work directly with the file you already have.
Your Nebula Data Checklist
- Find the CRAM or BAM file. This is the big one (tens of gigabytes) that contains your complete genome. It is the file NutraHacker and most serious analysis tools need.
- Also keep the VCF. It is small and handy, but it only lists preselected variant positions, so it is not a substitute for the CRAM or BAM.
- Ignore the index files ending in .crai or .bai. They are not your genome.
- Store at least two copies you control, for example an external drive plus your own cloud storage.
- Put the data to work. See our step-by-step guide: How to Download Nebula Genomics WGS Raw Data.
Where to Analyze Your Nebula Genome Now
NutraHacker accepts whole genome CRAM and BAM files from Nebula Genomics, DNA Complete, Dante Labs, Sequencing.com and other providers. Uploading is free, and every whole genome upload includes a free Detox & Methylation Report. Processing takes about 4–6 hours, and then the rest of our WGS reports (Critical Genetics, PGx, Complete Mutation Nutrition, Depression, Fitness and more) are available as one-time purchases, with no subscription.
