Promethease alternative
Promethease alternative: a raw DNA report you can act on
Promethease lists thousands of SNP associations for $25 and leaves you to work out what they mean. NutraHacker starts with a free methylation and detox report that explains each result in plain language and what you could do about it.
Why people look for a Promethease alternative
- It isn't free any more. Promethease says most reports cost $25, plus $4 for every extra file in the same report.
- It's hard to read. The report matches your genotypes to SNPedia entries: often thousands of results, each with a magnitude and a "good" or "bad" label, many from small or early studies. It rarely says what to do next.
- Nothing is kept. Since it became part of MyHeritage, Promethease deletes your file and report right after sending the report. That's good for privacy, but you upload and pay again to get a fresh report.
- Ownership. Promethease is operated by MyHeritage, so MyHeritage's terms and privacy policy apply to what you upload.
Promethease vs NutraHacker

|---|---|---|
| Price to start | $25 for most reports, $4 per extra file | Free: Detoxification and Methylation Report, imputation and Superhuman report |
| Approach | Every SNPedia match in your file, sorted by magnitude | Curated reports on specific topics (methylation, nutrition, histamine, skin, drug response and more) |
| Explanations | Short SNPedia summaries and links to studies | What the gene does, what your genotype means, how common it is and possible mitigation strategies |
| Supplement and nutrition guidance | No | Yes, in the free report and the Complete Mutation Nutrition Report ($37 one time) |
| Imputation | Larger imputed files are accepted, with longer run times | Free imputation of your chip data to about 30 million SNPs |
| Your file | Deleted after the report is sent | Kept so you can add reports later; never sold or shared |
| Whole genome data | Accepts large genotype files | BAM and CRAM uploads with dedicated WGS reports |

When Promethease is still the better pick
If you want the broadest possible list of published associations, enjoy reading research yourself, and don't mind the technical format, Promethease's breadth is hard to beat. Many people use both: Promethease to browse, and NutraHacker for structured reports with explanations and next steps. You can upload the same raw data file to each.
What the free NutraHacker report covers
The Detoxification and Methylation Report looks at 58 SNPs in genes such as MTHFR, COMT, MTR, MTRR and CBS. For each one you see your genotype, what the gene does, what your variant means, how common your genotype is, and possible mitigation strategies. Read more about MTHFR C677T, one of the most-asked-about SNPs it includes.
If you want more, optional one-time reports cover nutrition and supplements, carrier status and drug response, histamine, skincare, depression, fitness and more. See all prices.
How to switch
- Find your original raw data file, or download it again: 23andMe, AncestryDNA. Promethease no longer keeps a copy.
- Unzip it and upload the .txt or .csv file. It takes about 3 minutes.
- Open your free reports in the Report Center.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Promethease cost now?
Promethease says most reports cost $25, with $4 for each additional file added to the same report. It is no longer free.
Who owns Promethease?
Promethease is owned and operated by MyHeritage. Its privacy policy says MyHeritage's terms and privacy policy also apply to information you give Promethease.
Does Promethease keep my DNA file?
No. Its privacy policy says DNA files and reports are deleted right after the report is sent, and an uploaded file is deleted after 24 hours if no report is generated. All previously stored files were deleted on April 8, 2025. Save your report when you receive it.
Is there a free alternative to Promethease?
Yes. NutraHacker's Detoxification and Methylation Report is free with every raw DNA upload, along with genome imputation and a Superhuman traits report. It covers fewer SNPs than Promethease but explains each result and suggests possible mitigation strategies.
Can I use the same raw data file for Promethease and NutraHacker?
Yes. Both accept raw data from 23andMe, AncestryDNA and other common tests. For NutraHacker, unzip the download and upload the .txt or .csv file inside.
