What Is 23andMe Raw Data?

Your 23andMe raw data is a plain-text file listing several hundred thousand genetic markers (SNPs): each one's rsID, chromosome, position on the GRCh37 (build 37) reference genome, and your two alleles. It is the uninterpreted output of the genotyping chip, and it is the file that third-party services like NutraHacker analyze to produce health, nutrition and supplement reports that 23andMe doesn't offer.

How to Download Your 23andMe Raw Data

Step 1: Sign in to 23andMe

Go to 23andme.com and sign in. If you have forgotten your password, use the reset link; the download is tied to your account, not to the kit.

Step 2: Open the 23andMe Data page

Open Account Settings from the menu under your name and click "View" in the "23andMe Data" section. You can also go straight to you.23andme.com/tools/data. Menu labels have moved over the years, so if a guide sends you to "Data & Privacy" or "Browse Raw Data", look for "23andMe Data" instead.

Step 3: Request the raw data file

Choose the profile (if your account has more than one), confirm that profile's date of birth, and submit the request for the raw data download.

Step 4: Wait for the email

23andMe prepares the file and emails you when it's ready. This can take up to about 48 hours, so it's worth requesting it well before you need it.

Step 5: Download and keep the file

Follow the link in the email, confirm the birthdate again, and download the file. It usually arrives as a .zip containing a .txt file named like genome_Your_Name_v5_Full_….txt. Unzip it and keep a copy somewhere you control. The .txt file inside is what you upload to NutraHacker.

What Changed After the Sale to TTAM

• Ownership: 23andMe filed for bankruptcy in March 2025. After an auction, the court approved the sale of its business to TTAM Research Institute for $305 million, and the sale closed in July 2025.
• Your controls: TTAM agreed to honor 23andMe's privacy policies, including deleting your account and genetic data and opting out of research.
• State regulators: during the sale, several state attorneys general, including California's, urged customers to consider deleting their data.
