How to Download Your MyHeritage Raw DNA Data

MyHeritage DNA gives you an ethnicity estimate and relative matches, but behind them is a raw data file with hundreds of thousands of genetic markers. You can download it, keep it, and upload it to other services, including NutraHacker's free methylation and detox report. Here is how.

What Is MyHeritage Raw DNA Data?

The raw data file is the direct output of the genotyping chip: one row per SNP with its rsID, chromosome, position and your two alleles. It contains no ethnicity estimate or match list; those are calculated by MyHeritage. Once downloaded, the file is no longer protected by MyHeritage's security, so store it somewhere safe.

Before You Start

  • Your results must be ready. The download option only appears once your DNA results are published.
  • You must manage the kit. Only the kit manager can download the file, not the person the kit is assigned to (if those are different people).
  • Use a computer or Android device. MyHeritage says the download doesn't work on an iPhone or iPad.
  • Uploaded kits can't be downloaded. If you transferred data into MyHeritage from 23andMe, AncestryDNA or another company, download it from that company instead.

How to Download Your MyHeritage Raw DNA Data

Step 1: Sign in

Go to myheritage.com and sign in. If you use two-factor authentication, enter your code.

Step 2: Open Manage DNA kits

Click the DNA tab in the top menu and choose Manage DNA kits.

Step 3: Choose Download kit

Click the three dots to the right of the kit you want and choose Download kit. Click Continue and confirm that you understand the downloaded file is no longer secured by MyHeritage.

Step 4: Confirm from the email

MyHeritage emails you a link to continue the download. Open it, enter your MyHeritage password again, and the file starts downloading to your usual downloads folder.

Step 5: Unzip and keep the file

The raw data is a .csv file, usually inside a .zip file. Unzip it and keep a copy somewhere you control, ideally with a backup. The .csv file is what you upload to NutraHacker.

MyHeritage's menus change from time to time. If a label doesn't match, see MyHeritage's own help article. If you have a MyHeritage whole genome sequencing kit, the same article explains how to download the much larger CRAM file.

What to Do With Your MyHeritage Raw Data

Upload the .csv file to NutraHacker. It takes about 3 minutes, and these are free:

  • Detoxification and Methylation Report: 58 methylation and detox SNPs (MTHFR and others), each with what the gene does, what your variant means and possible mitigation strategies.
  • Genome imputation: your chip data expanded to about 30 million SNPs, which the Complete Mutation Nutrition Report uses.
  • Superhuman Report: 25 SNPs for traits such as the myostatin deletion and the short-sleeper gene.

Optional reports cover nutrition and supplements, carrier status and drug response, histamine, skincare, depression, fitness and more. Each is a one-time payment; see all report prices. For other ways to use the file, see what to do with raw DNA data and our comparison of free DNA upload sites.

Tested With More Than One Company?

MyHeritage, AncestryDNA and 23andMe use different chips that test partly different SNPs, and NutraHacker accepts files from all of them. Imputation fills in many of the gaps either way. See how to download AncestryDNA raw data and how to download 23andMe raw data.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I download my MyHeritage raw DNA data?

Sign in to MyHeritage on a computer, open the DNA tab, choose Manage DNA kits, click the three dots next to your kit and choose Download kit. Confirm, open the link MyHeritage emails you, enter your password again and the file downloads.

Why can't I see the Download option?

The option only appears once your DNA results are ready, and only the manager of the kit can download it. Kits that were uploaded to MyHeritage from another company can't be downloaded; get the file from the original company instead.

Can I download MyHeritage raw data on my phone?

On an Android device, yes. MyHeritage says the raw data download doesn't work on an iPhone or iPad, so use a computer.

What format is the MyHeritage raw data file?

A .csv file, usually delivered inside a .zip file. Unzip it and upload the .csv file to NutraHacker.

Can I upload MyHeritage DNA data to NutraHacker for free?

Yes. Uploading MyHeritage raw data is free and includes a Detoxification and Methylation Report, genome imputation and a Superhuman traits report. Other reports are optional.
