Gene IL10

Also known as
CSIF, IL-10, interleukin 10Overview
IL10 (Interleukin 10) encodes a potent anti-inflammatory cytokine that plays essential roles in limiting immune responses and preventing tissue damage from excessive inflammation. IL-10 is produced by many immune cell types and acts to suppress the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines like TNF-alpha, IL-1, and IL-6.Genetic variants in the IL10 promoter region affect IL-10 production levels. Low IL-10 producers may have inadequate inflammatory control, potentially increasing susceptibility to autoimmune diseases, chronic inflammatory conditions, and certain cancers. Conversely, some studies suggest low IL-10 may improve pathogen clearance in certain infections.
Understanding your IL10 genetic status provides insights into your inflammatory balance. Individuals with variants affecting IL-10 production may benefit from anti-inflammatory dietary and lifestyle interventions to support appropriate immune regulation and reduce chronic inflammation risk.
