ALOX15 (Arachidonate 15-Lipoxygenase) encodes 15-lipoxygenase-1, an enzyme that metabolizes polyunsaturated fatty acids including arachidonic acid and linoleic acid. This enzyme produces various bioactive lipid mediators that play important roles in inflammation, cell differentiation, and immune responses.15-lipoxygenase is involved in the synthesis of lipoxins, resolvins, and other specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs) that help resolve inflammation and promote tissue repair. It also produces 15-HETE and 13-HODE, which have both pro- and anti-inflammatory effects depending on context. Genetic variants in ALOX15 have been associated with atherosclerosis, asthma, and various inflammatory conditions.
