Also known as
E4TF1-53, E4TF1-60, NRF2B1, GA binding protein transcription factor subunit beta 1Overview
GABPB1 (GA Binding Protein Transcription Factor Subunit Beta 1) encodes a subunit of the GA-binding protein (GABP) transcription factor complex, also known as Nuclear Respiratory Factor 2 (NRF2). This protein forms heterotetramers with GABPA and regulates genes involved in mitochondrial biogenesis, oxidative phosphorylation, and cellular antioxidant defenses.GABPB1 plays critical roles in energy metabolism by controlling expression of many mitochondrial genes. It also regulates genes involved in cell cycle control, apoptosis, and neuronal function. Variants in GABPB1 have been studied in relation to athletic performance, as the gene influences mitochondrial function and aerobic capacity.
Understanding your GABPB1 genetic status provides insights into mitochondrial function and energy metabolism. This information may be relevant for understanding exercise capacity and response to endurance training, as well as potential susceptibility to conditions involving mitochondrial dysfunction.
