Also known as

PRSS10

Overview

TMPRSS2 is a gene that codes for a transmembrane protease called transmembrane protease, serine 2. This protease is involved in the activation of a number of proteins, including the viral protein that causes the common cold (human rhinovirus) and the viral envelope protein of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). TMPRSS2 is also involved in the activation of a number of other proteins, including the hormone insulin and several growth factors. Dysregulation of TMPRSS2 has been linked to a number of diseases, including cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
