The findings also show that BMEL has membrane stabilizing activity and does not stimulate the adrenal-pituitary axis. These results support the traditional use of Paederia foetida for its anti-inflammatory benefits.

Antioxidant Capacities

Fresh and dried extracts of Paederia foetida were assessed for their antioxidant potential through beta-carotene bleaching and ABTS radical cation assays. The study found that fresh plant extracts exhibit higher antioxidant activity, ranging from 58% to 80%, compared to dried extracts. There is a strong correlation between the two assays, confirming the consistency of the testing methods.

Antidiarrhoeal Effects

The antidiarrhoeal properties of Paederia foetida were explored due to its traditional uses in Asia for treating diarrhea and dysentery. A 90% ethanol extract of the plant was tested on mice, revealing an increase in the onset time of diarrhea and a reduction in its severity in a dose-dependent manner.
